Temperature Sensor Cables

Custom sensor strings with up to 48 waterproof digital temperature sensors on rugged PUR cable up to 250 m. Sensor-stored calibration on a 2-wire bus, compatible with miniature logger, SDI-12, and optional LTE/satellite.

Custom Made

You specify the type, number, and distance of sensors from the start of the cable.

Combine up to 48 digital sensors on a rugged and flexible PUR cable up to 250 metres long. Cables are 4.2 mm thick with a maximum tensile load of 30 kg and a IP67-protected connector.

Sensors are encapsulated in stainless steel tubes (8 mm diameter, 80 mm long) and completely waterproof. The minimum distance between the sensors is 15 cm (10 cm between the first two sensors). Sensors use a digital 2-wire bus and have an operational range of -40ºC to 85ºC.

Three sensor types exist:

  • TNode (resolution: 0.01 °C; accuracy: ±0.1 °C from -5 to +50 °C and ±0.5 °C from -40 to +85 °C)

  • TNode EX (resolution: 0.001 °C; accuracy: ±0.1 °C from -20 to +25 °C, ±0.2 °C from -30 to +40 °C,  ±0.5 °C from -40 to +85 °C)

  • TNode HD (resolution: 0.0001 °C; accuracy: ±0.05 °C from -20 to +25 °C, ±0.1 °C from -30 to +40 °C, ±0.25 °C from -40 to +85 °C)

Why choose digital sensors?

  • Digital sensors have superior performance because thermistor and sensing electronics are at equal temperature, making calibration more reliable.

  • When exchanging dataloggers, the values recorded stay consistent because calibration is stored on each sensor and independent of the data logger.

  • Digital sensors communicate reliably on two wires, making sensor strings thinner and lighter. Heat flux along wires is minimised.

Miniature Data Logger

The M-LOG5W-STRING logger is our most popular solution. The small logger (diameter: 2 cm, length: 13 cm) often fits inside a borehole pipe, avoiding water ingress at cable ports and cables chewed by animals.

Up to 48 string sensors can be read the non-volatile memory holds up to 500.000 measured values. Data are transferred to a laptop with a special USB adapter via low-power wireless protocol (915 MHz). The operating temperature range is -40°C to +85°C and normal use often sees one battery and memory sufficient for 5 years (see battery and memory life calculator). A single AA battery (1.5V or 3.6V Lithium) in a clip can be exchanged easily.

SDI-12 converter

You can connect our sensor strings to external data logging systems or computers via SDI-12 serial bus. The converter takes 6–14V supply voltage (60 mA) and has overvoltage protection. Operating temperature range - 40°C to + 85°C, IP69 ingress protection.

LTE and Satellite connectivity

Upon request, we can provide LTE and satellite connectivity. Gateway loggers communicate with our miniature data loggers wirelessly and transmit the collected data via LTE or satellite. This configuration avoids the vulnerability of long cables and keeps a redundant copy of logged data on the miniature data loggers.
